We get clouds like that mostly in the winter. About a month ago, there was one over the mountain to the south and it lasted almost all day! They are pretty cool!
Try this, they form over mountains. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lenticular_cloud It looks sort of like a space ship or another site described it as a stack of dishes.
