My dear friend Donna gave me these dishes a couple of days before thanksgiving.
When my husband came home he told me how he grow up with these dishes. They brought back fond memories of her grand mother.
I am missing the lid to the sugar bowl. Which is a blessing in disguise. Now I have a reason to go antiquing. Not that I need one.
I love this bowl. Does anyone know if you can put these in a dishwasher?
I almost made the mistake of putting this in the oven. I would of been really upset if I had ruined a piece of this set. I can't thank Donna enough. Not only is it a lovely set,but for my husband it bring a bit of his grand mother into the house.
One of my grandmothers was an avid collector of this set...what a wonderful treasure..enjoy the antiquing!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely set of dishes! I have never seen this pattern before, but it is so pretty! It is extra specail because of your husband's memories! Donna was sweet to offer it ot you!! Love it!!!
ReplyDeleteI remember my grandmother having a few pieces like this, most notably the serving bowl. I wouldn't put it in the dishwasher, it will scratch the finish and mess up the gold rims. Sometimes we just gotta bite the bullet and hand wash these lovely old pieces! :)
ReplyDeleteThere is an online resource called "replacements ltd" that might have your missing lid.
Those are beautiful Michelle! What is the name of the pattern and maker? It's so elegant!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful set of dishes and how thoughtful of your friends to give them to you. What a bonus that your husband has fond memories of these dishes also. I would not put them in the dishwasher. Most older dishes were made before dishwashers so I would be afraid of what might happen. Good luck hunting a lid for your sugar bowl.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great set! I've seen this pattern before. It's Jewel Tea Autumn Leaf made by Hall China dating from the 1930s. You should be able to find your missing pieces. Happy hunting!
ReplyDeleteThose are beautiful. My parents gave me a set of Johnson Bros Country Village that had sat unopened in their attic since 1960 that were perfect for Thanksgiving. I was concerned about the dishwasher so I asked a neighbor who is knowledgeable about such things. She said, if using every day -- wash by hand. If you are only using them a few times a year -- wash in the dishwasher, if the thought of washing by hand would cause you to not use them (which was my case, as at Thanksgiving we host between 8 and 15 guests!). She said it is better to have some "wear" from the dishwasher than to have perfect dishes sitting unused in a box. I thought that was a good perspective.
ReplyDeleteWow! What a nice gift. Those are very special indeed.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty! What a great gift --what a great friend!
ReplyDeleteThose are nice dishes Michelle. Way to go Donna.
